Las Posadas Day 4 – December 19

As the miles passed, the road beneath Mary and Joseph’s feet undoubtedly brought weariness. The night stars illumined their path as they stopped to pray, seeking comfort from the unseen God who called them into this wilderness. Mary contemplated within herself the Presence of her Son – also the Son of God – who mysteriously nourished her soul as her body nourished His tiny frame. Far from home, far from their destination, and surrounded by danger, Mary and Joseph found peace and they rested in God who held their future.

Rosary Contemplations

In the first decade of the Rosary, let us contemplate the holy pilgrims Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem. Let us ask God for the grace to help others on their journey through life by manifesting to others the goodness and kindness of God.
In the second decade, let us contemplate the thoughtfulness of Mary as she asked Joseph to stop and rest knowing he walked the entire journey. Let us ask God for the grace to have consideration for those with whom we live and work.
In the third decade, let us contemplate Joseph in his concern for Mary during the long journey to Bethlehem. Let us ask for the grace to be able to accept the concern and help of others just as the Infant Savior was prepared to accept the care of Joseph and Mary.
In the fourth decade, let us contemplate the silence and recollection of Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem. Let us ask God for these virtues so that we may hear His word in our souls and recognize His will in our lives.
In the fifth decade, let us contemplate the kindness of Mary and Joseph toward other travelers. We ask for the grace of a generous love that it may be a healing power for our neighbor and bring him to find hope in our loving Savior.

O Christ, our Lord and King, come for the sake of Your people, that by the strength and unity of Your love, they may proclaim to all the world the glory and joy of Your kingdom. In a bond of union, draw mankind to Your reign of love, gentleness, mercy and truth. Help each of us to spread Your kingdom and to prepare our hearts in love for Your coming. Amen.

Prayer to Mary and Joseph

O blessed parents of the Infant Jesus, Mary and Joseph, if we came to ask you to obtain for us worldly prosperity, joys, honors and comforts, our prayers could never reach the cradle of a God, poor, humble even to annihilation, forgotten, suffering, weak and lying in a manger; but these are not our desires or petitions.

No, we humbly and earnestly implore you to beg for us, at the crib of your Infant Son, that like Him, and as His true and faithful followers, we may love to live in humility, disengagement from creatures, contempt of worldliness and its vanities, constant recollection of the holy presence of God, fervor and fidelity in all our duties, and in the practice of the tenderest charity to all persons.

May we never be ashamed at the humility of the crib nor at the poverty and simplicity of Bethlehem. May we ever rejoice at our happy state as true spouses of Jesus Christ. We pray that all may come to bless, to praise, and to love the Savior Who comes to redeem us.
