Las Posadas Day 3 – December 18

Rosary Contemplations

  1. In the first decade of the Rosary, let us contemplate the holy pilgrims Mary and Joseph as they continue on their journey to Bethlehem. Let us ask for the grace of perseverance in the fulfillment of God’s plan for each of us so that our hearts may be ready to receive Christ.
  2. In the second decade, let us contemplate Mary as she pondered the words of the Angel Gabriel. Let us beg for the grace to imitate Mary and ponder the Word of God in our hearts and listen to God in prayer.
  3. In the third decade, let us contemplate Joseph who was given the glorious task of being the protector of the Virgin Mother of God. Let us ask him to beg for us the grace of purity of heart which will enable our souls to receive Christ.
  4. In the fourth decade, let us contemplate the words of the prophet Isaiah: “Behold, a Virgin shall be with child and name Him Emmanuel.” Let us beg for the grace to realize that God is with us, and let us pray for those who do not accept Him.
  5. In the fifth decade, let us contemplate further the meaning of the name “Emmanuel, God is with us.” Let us beg for the grace to share with others the joy of those who live in a promise fulfilled.

Aspiration after each decade:
V. Come Divine Child and dwell in me,
R. For I desire to live only for Thee.

Posadas Song
English Español
At your gates are calling, looking just for shelter,
A poor working man and his wife beloved.

Who? Who at this hour dare to disturb us?
Breaking our sleep when we need it most?
Breaking our sleep when we need it most?
Breaking our sleep when we need it most?

Only for one night we implore your mercy,
With a little corner, we’ll be satisfied.

Even with regret, we have to say “no.”
The kitchen is bare and the house too small.

Joseph is my name, carpenter by trade,
And forced by the law, we left Nazareth.

We are sorry, friends, but we have no room.
Keep your fortune trying; this is not an inn.

We are all worn out from such a long journey.
Listen to our plea for the love of God.

If you are just travelers, why not give your name?
Thieves sometimes deceive under some pretext.

Mary, my spouse, is the Queen of heaven,
And the Virgin-Mother of the Son of God.

So, you are Joseph, and Mary your Spouse?
Welcome, dear pilgrims! Welcome to my house!

God repay your kindness and your charity
With His choicest blessing and eternal bliss.

With happiness and great joy, let us sing all together,
To Jesus, Joseph and Mary, who have come to honor us.
To Jesus, Joseph and Mary, who have come to honor us.

A tus puertas llegan a pedir posada

Posada pedimos amable casero,

Novena Prayer

O God, to Whom the whole earth proclaims its glad praise, make known Your Son, our Savior. O humble Virgin, help us to walk in humility, in the light of the Lord Who has come and Who comes to us still in grace. His sacraments of grace are His face turned towards us in love until He comes in majesty. Help us to be humble, generous and kind. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

V. Mercy and truth are the Lord’s ways.
R. His witness to all who seek Him

Intercessions

Response: Lord, Hear Our Prayer

R. Short Hymn

Let us pray:

(All) God of love and mercy, help us to follow the example of Mary, always ready to do Your will. At the message of an angel she welcomed Your Eternal Son, and filled with the light of Your Spirit, she became the temple of Your Word, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Short Hymns

Español English
Me Pide Posada
Me pide posada la Virgen María,
Está muy cansada, la noche muy fría,
Está muy cansada, la noche muy fría.
Ven dulce esperanza, consuelo de Sión.
Oh, Madre, descansa! Descansa en mi corazón.

O PEREGRINA AGRACIADA
O peregrina agraciada!
O bellísima María!
Yo te ofrezco el alma mía
Para que tengáis posada.

HUMILDES PEREGRINOS
Humildes peregrinos
Jesús, María y José
Mi alma os doy y con ella
Mi corazón también. (repeat)

CAMINITO DE BELEN
Caminito de Belén
Cruza la Virgen el monte,
Dando gozo a las estrellas,
Dando perfume a las flores.

Un fiel esposo hace guardia,
Al Niño Dios que ella esconde,
Y un ángel quita a su paso
Las asperezas del bosque. Caminito…

She Asks Me for Shelter
The Virgin Mary asks me for shelter.
She is very tired; the night is cold.
She is very tired; the night is cold.
Come sweet hope, comfort of Zion.
O Mother rest! Take rest in my heart.

O Gentle Pilgrim
O gentle pilgrim
O most beautiful Mary
I offer you my soul
That you may have shelter.

Humble Pilgrims
Humble pilgrims,
Jesus, Mary and Joseph
I give you my soul and with it
My heart also.

Little Road to Bethlehem
Little road to Bethlehem
The Virgin travels across the mountain.
Giving joy to the stars,
Giving fragrance to the flowers.

A faithful spouse keeps guard,
To the Infant God she hides,
And an angel removes from her path
The ruggedness of the forest.

Prayer to Mary and Joseph

O blessed parents of the Infant Jesus, Mary and Joseph, if we came to ask you to obtain for us worldly prosperity, joys, honors and comforts, our prayers could never reach the cradle of a God, poor, humble even to annihilation, forgotten, suffering, weak and lying in a manger; but these are not our desires or petitions.

No, we humbly and earnestly implore you to beg for us, at the crib of your Infant Son, that like Him, and as His true and faithful followers, we may love to live in humility, disengagement from creatures, contempt of worldliness and its vanities, constant recollection of the holy presence of God, fervor and fidelity in all our duties, and in the practice of the tenderest charity to all persons.

May we never be ashamed at the humility of the crib nor at the poverty and simplicity of Bethlehem. May we ever rejoice at our happy state as true spouses of Jesus Christ. We pray that all may come to bless, to praise, and to love the Savior Who comes to redeem us.

V. Infant Jesus, poor and simple,
R. Grant our petition.

V. Infant Jesus, humble and obedient,
R. Grant our petition.

V. Infant Jesus, silent and recollected,
R. Grant our petition.

V. Holy Mother of the Infant Jesus,
R. Pray for us.

V. Blessed St. Joseph,
R. Pray for us.

V. All you saints devoted to the holy infancy of Jesus,
R. Pray for us.

Andale Chana

Andale, chana, sal del Rincon
Con la canasta de la colación;
Andale, chana, no te dilates
Con la canasta de los cacahuates.

English Translation:

Hurry, chana (jokester)! Don’t keep us
waiting for the basket of sweets.
Hurry, chana! Don’t delay!
Bring out the basket of peanuts!
