You never know how God will use you. Your intentional movement in love and goodness in the little things, impacts the people around you. It makes a difference. It’s imperceptible at times, but it’s happening. A tiny flame lifts the heavy lid of night.
Most people who know of St. Therese, “The Little Flower,” are acquainted with the popular image of a young Carmelite nun, standing bathed in a heavenly light, with a serene smile, holding a crucifix surrounded by cascading roses.
Our world says: “Don’t wear your heart on your sleeve for it will be broken.” But Jesus is shown pulling His garments aside to show us His Sacred Heart. The love of God is exposed. His heart is not hidden; we see it.
Fear can make us impenetrable. It’s the journey of delving into the deeper layers our external fears point to that counts. Moving into the deeper spaces in ourselves that we don’t want to penetrate because we’re unsure of what we’ll find.
Joy, to me, is a spiritual gift, one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and I feel that so many times we just don’t go deeply enough to reach this deeper level of human experience.
