He is Alive

By Sister Regina Marie, O.C.D.

Our Lord said to St. Faustina: “When I come to a human heart in Holy Communion, my hands are full of all kinds of graces which I want to give to the soul, but souls do not even pay attention to me. They leave me to myself and busy themselves with other things … they treat me as a dead object” (Diary 1385).

We will be drawn deeper into the ambit of His healing Mercy. Insofar as we surrender to Him, trust Him, participate in His life through grace, through life-giving friendship with Him, then:

We also become the subject, the place where God’s mercy is made manifest. To the extent that His life-breath enlivens our soul, His blood courses through our veins, we will make visible the depth of God’s unending and pursuing mercy in our world today.

Our children, our grandchildren, our neighbors will unspeakably be drawn to gravitate towards Him.

We live in a time of great suffering, of deep spiritual indifference, profound confusion. It was during a similarly dark and painful time when the gift of Divine Mercy was communicated to St. Faustina. It is precisely during such times when we are most aware of our need for mercy that the footsteps of Mercy approach – unfailingly approach us – if we have eyes to recognize Him and ears to hear. And when we recognize Him, respond to His unconditional Love and receive His unlimited Mercy, unbeknownst to us, people begin to hear the Footsteps of Mercy in our own footsteps as we walk our own journey.

This is the Mystery.

Let us rest in His presence.

One of the most liberating gifts that we can receive from the Heart of our Heavenly Father and Jesus, our Savior, is the free gift of mercy. But do you sometimes find yourself struggling to receive this gift? I mean really receive, in the innermost depth of your being with unshakable certainty?

Our Merciful Mother

In the Anáhuac Valley of Mexico, on a barren hill called Tepeyac, Our Lady of Guadalupe came as a “merciful Mother,” a healer and restorer of all who are broken in body and in spirit. It is an amazing thought to consider that the “woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars” would place her feet upon the bloodstained soil of a nation’s festering woundedness.
