Practical Tips for Teens

By TeriAnn Mann

Spreading your wings can be challenging at times. Pressures can arise from all corners of your life, family, friends, peers, school, even recreational pursuits. Woody in Toy Story may have coined the words, “you’ve got a friend in me” from a Higher Source! Jesus is always close. Hope you find these tips helpful.

    1. Download the Bible App or the Rosary App on to your cell phones. So, when you need some divine guidance and you worry your friends won’t understand, words of wisdom from our Lord is just an APP away.
    2. Your teen years can be a difficult time, many teens live their lives through social media. Be responsible, before you post, think: Is it kind? Is it true? Is it necessary
    3. Love your family. It’s easy to use harsh words towards those we love because we know they will forgive us, but refer to #2
    4. Respect yourself, don’t let others convince you to participate in something you know is wrong, only because they don’t want to do it by themselves.
    5. From our high school Seniors: Do not let your GPA slip too low in Freshman year, you will spend the rest of high school trying to raise it back up.
    6. Possessions won’t make you happy, the latest phone, or another technology item, will not fix things. They actually distract you from what is important. Don’t give power over your life to a phone.

Our Merciful Mother

In the Anáhuac Valley of Mexico, on a barren hill called Tepeyac, Our Lady of Guadalupe came as a “merciful Mother,” a healer and restorer of all who are broken in body and in spirit. It is an amazing thought to consider that the “woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars” would place her feet upon the bloodstained soil of a nation’s festering woundedness.

Our Lord said to St. Faustina: “When I come to a human heart in Holy Communion, my hands are full of all kinds of graces which I want to give to the soul, but souls do not even pay attention to me. They leave me to myself and busy themselves with other things … they treat me as a dead object” (Diary 1385).
