Recently, in attending the funeral Mass of the mother of one of our sisters, I had the immense blessing of sitting behind a very elderly couple who obviously had been married 50, 60+ years. As I watched them physically support each other, lean in to whisper, hold hands, one helping the other up and down, the question, “what do we value?” popped into my mind.
What do we value? What I saw in this couple was the culmination of shared values lived over minutes, days, weeks, decades, months, years of choices. I saw a lot in the way they reached for each other’s hands and the way they so seamlessly and comfortably came together. Their love for each other was tangible. I can’t quite express how beautiful it was. This unassuming little couple.
Unassuming. Not noticeable. Yet so awesome.
What do you value? As you move through your life, at the end of each day, you will see by the choices you have made, what you value. What you value now will shape your future story.
I don’t know about you, but I want to be like that little old couple. Loving. Faithful. Steady. Persevering. Present.
