Years of Wisdom, Years of Grace

By: Sister Jeannine Marie, O.C.D.

As we celebrate this ‘Year of the Family’, we come to those most important years where we learn wisdom from experience. Our approach to life suddenly takes on a new viewpoint. As we peer through the “rear view mirror” of our life we relive the joys and sorrows, the accomplishments and failures, and the many curves and turns we have followed. A careful look ahead on the road, however, puts all of this in perspective. Do we know the way to San Jose?

The eleventh promise of the Sacred Heart is, “The names of those who promote this devotion will be written in My Heart, never to be blotted out.” This is the Way; this is the roadmap of life. The dictionary definition of wisdom is: “the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment.” How do we grow in wisdom? Is it just the accumulation of years lived?

True wisdom comes from following that Way; from reading the Roadmap of life outlined in the teachings of the Church; by placing all our hope in His Heart that will never forget us. These are sound actions and good judgments that will make the road ahead safe and sure. If we keep our eyes on the “Road” and follow the map we will know the Way! Buckle up – here we go!
