New Beginnings

“I will shed abundant blessing on all their undertakings.”

The lyrics to our song this month: “Getting to know you,” say, That if you become a teacher by your pupils you’ll be taught. Isn’t this true when we think of children in a family setting? Those tentative first steps when space ahead looks endless; those giggles when they realize that their hand is really theirs. The discoveries seem limitless. In each one, they are getting to know themselves in a new way. Each tiny accomplishment is a source of boundless pride to the smiling parent. It is a wonderful way of getting to know them as well. Does this work with God?

Surprisingly, Scripture tells us that God delights in us. Each of our tiny steps in life or new discoveries brings true joy to the Sacred Heart. He promises us to shed an abundant blessing on all that we do. So stop and listen and perhaps deep in your heart you will hear God sing:

Getting to know you
Getting to know all about you
Getting to like you
Getting to hope you like me.If we teach our children and allow them to teach us as well we can grow into a more comfortable place with God and each other. So, let this be our

New Beginning this year.

God could have created a perfect world. He could have arranged things so as to prevent us from falling into the pit by our sinful, despicable actions. He’s all powerful, after all. In the Anáhuac Valley of Mexico, on a barren hill called Tepeyac, Our Lady of Guadalupe came as a “merciful Mother,” a healer and restorer of all who are broken in body and in spirit. It is an amazing thought to consider that the “woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars” would place her feet upon the bloodstained soil of a nation’s festering woundedness.
