Community of Sisters praying in Chapel, 'Christmas Novena with the Carmelite Sisters'

Christmas Novena

With this CD, we wish to share with you our cherished Advent tradition – the Christmas Novena of Las Posadas, meaning “the Inns,” originated in Spain, and became a highly-anticipated religious celebration in Mexico. Our Foundress, Venerable Mother Luisita, brought this tradition with her when she fled to the United States from the religious persecutions in their native Mexico.

Starting nine days before Christmas, each evening we accompany Joseph leading Mary on a donkey, as they stop and knock at the door of a different house, seeking shelter. When the Holy Family is welcomed inside, the people pray together and then enjoy a meal.

For this Year of Mercy, this CD contains reflections and prayers for each day of the Novena recalling the many times God’s mercy is showered upon His people. Please join us as we accompany Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem as we prayerfully prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus.

Merry Christmas, dear friends. May the joy and peace that comes from our newborn Savior be with you during this holy season and into the New Year.
