Lord, I Want to See

Isaiah speaks of the One who is coming to restore us. He will feed us, heal us, and restore our sight by removing the veil and web that prevents us from recognizing Him.
I am looking at a painting. It is of Jesus in a crowd of men. A blind man is kneeling in front of Jesus. He is extending His finger touching the man’s left eye. We know the rest of the story. Jesus restores the man’s vision. The man acknowledges that Jesus is the Savior. Some men in the crowd rejoice in the miracle, but others remain underneath the veil and web that prevents them from seeing Jesus for who He is – the Restorer.

Our foundress Mother Luisita and her husband, Dr. Pascual, did as Jesus did in the Gospel. They took care of the sick and in a different manner “fed” the poor with medical attention by means of the hospital they established in their little town of Atotonilco and provided education through the schools Mother Luisita founded.

In this time of Advent, a time of giving, how are you and I invited to “feed” the poor and bring solace to the needy, so they may come to know the Restorer, the savior “…who comes to save us”? Let us ask the Holy Spirit to remove the veil and web from our vision to see the opportunities He presents us each day to restore each of us, and how we can be His instruments of healing for others.

In the Anáhuac Valley of Mexico, on a barren hill called Tepeyac, Our Lady of Guadalupe came as a “merciful Mother,” a healer and restorer of all who are broken in body and in spirit. It is an amazing thought to consider that the “woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars” would place her feet upon the bloodstained soil of a nation’s festering woundedness.
