Jesus, I Have a Place For You

Early on Christmas morning, as the “Dawn from on high breaks upon us,” let us tiptoe to a quiet place and in a silent, sacred moment simply tell our Infant Savior: “Jesus, welcome to our world, we have a place for You. I have a place for You today and every day of my life until I see You face to face.”

Our journey through Advent has allowed us to enter into the Old Testament mystery of God’s plan which unfolded through the words of the prophets, preparing us for His Son, the Messiah. In the New Testament, the Gospel of John eloquently presents the Son coming from the Father as One beheld in glory. Ah! Glory is what we behold on that first Christmas night with the Star of Bethlehem, a choir of angels breaking forth into song, and simple shepherds running to adore the promised Messiah, radiant in His Infancy held in adoration by Our Blessed Mother and St. Joseph! All of creation joins in welcoming the second Person of the Trinity to our world.

Let us choose to live this Christmas Day and every day with a deep sense of gratitude that the Lord has come to be among us. Chapter 8 in the Book of Wisdom is a delightful reminder of what God thinks about being with us human beings: “I was beside the Master Craftsman delighting Him day after day, always at play in His Presence, at play everywhere on the earth, delighting to be with the children of men.”

He is not far from any of us and desires to come to the help of His children. May you experience the joy of childlike trust in the God who created you and sent to you His Son so that as one family, we can spend our days delighting to be with the Son of God.

God could have created a perfect world. He could have arranged things so as to prevent us from falling into the pit by our sinful, despicable actions. He’s all powerful, after all. This would have been so easy for God. But that’s not how He decided to do things. In the Anáhuac Valley of Mexico, on a barren hill called Tepeyac, Our Lady of Guadalupe came as a “merciful Mother,” a healer and restorer of all who are broken in body and in spirit. It is an amazing thought to consider that the “woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars” would place her feet upon the bloodstained soil of a nation’s festering woundedness.
