Eagle soaring in sky

What’s in a song?

Eighth Promise of the Sacred Heart

In this month of October, we are highlighting the eighth promise of the Sacred Heart: “Fervent souls will rapidly grow in holiness and perfection.” We also want to focus on that very important component in life –nurturing. To be truly formed, one must feel loved. The family is the most natural place for this to occur. From the first time we are held in our parent’s arms, to that lifting up when we fall taking our first steps, to the strong arms of daddy steadying the tricycle, we experience love. But there is spiritual nurturing as well.

Our overarching song this month is: Wind Beneath My Wings. So, what’s in a song? Well, how about – “I could fly higher than an eagle, ’cause you are the wind beneath my wings.” The lyrics to this song can actually teach us quite a lot about the Sacred Heart and His nurturing love in our lives.

Scripturally, both in the Old and New Testaments, the Holy Spirit has been associated with the wind. Like the wind, he moves imperceptibly in our lives; guiding us; inspiring us; lifting us – higher than an eagle. This Spirit is a direct gift to us from Jesus, the Sacred Heart. He knows us so well. We may go through life under the illusion that we are doing all, my way. But hopefully, sooner than later, we realize, like the author of the song, that – “I was the one with all the glory, while you were the one with all the strength.” The Sacred Heart promises us that we will grow in holiness and perfection and He is true to his word.

Slowly, imperceptibly, Jesus will lift us up like eagles to soar above our brokenness to heights we could never imagine. “It might have appeared to go unnoticed, but I’ve got it all here in my heart.” Those words could easily be uttered on the lips of the Sacred Heart. He humbly watches over us and like the wind—cools, refreshes, and guides us. Let’s let Him know we trust in His promise and open our hearts to be lifted up. He really is our Hero and…

The Wind beneath our wings.

One of the most liberating gifts that we can receive from the Heart of our Heavenly Father and Jesus, our Savior, is the free gift of mercy. But do you sometimes find yourself struggling to receive this gift? I mean really receive, in the innermost depth of your being with unshakable certainty?

Our Merciful Mother

Our Merciful Mother

In the Anáhuac Valley of Mexico, on a barren hill called Tepeyac, Our Lady of Guadalupe came as a “merciful Mother,” a healer and restorer of all who are broken in body and in spirit. It is an amazing thought to consider that the “woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars” would place her feet upon the bloodstained soil of a nation’s festering woundedness.

Our Lord said to St. Faustina: “When I come to a human heart in Holy Communion, my hands are full of all kinds of graces which I want to give to the soul, but souls do not even pay attention to me. They leave me to myself and busy themselves with other things … they treat me as a dead object” (Diary 1385).
