Memories of Receiving the Habit

On the day I received the religious habit, I was 19 years old and only a little more than 10 months in the Community.  The experience was a life-changing one as in our early formation we  knew that the Reception of the Habit was the beginning of our “spousal relationship” with Christ.  I was now a “bride of the Lord and King of the universe.”  This was an awesome and overwhelming event in my initial steps in religious life.  To this very day, almost 48 years later, it is mind boggling to realized that when I dress every morning and I put on my habit, I am clothing myself in my bridal gown, the bridal gown that I put on 47 years ago.  May the Lord continue to be given praise and glory by my religious witness.

Our Merciful Mother

Our Merciful Mother

In the Anáhuac Valley of Mexico, on a barren hill called Tepeyac, Our Lady of Guadalupe came as a “merciful Mother,” a healer and restorer of all who are broken in body and in spirit. It is an amazing thought to consider that the “woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars” would place her feet upon the bloodstained soil of a nation’s festering woundedness.

Our Lord said to St. Faustina: “When I come to a human heart in Holy Communion, my hands are full of all kinds of graces which I want to give to the soul, but souls do not even pay attention to me. They leave me to myself and busy themselves with other things … they treat me as a dead object” (Diary 1385).
