Despite all the above important practical points, we still need to address the real ethical issue: if practi- cal cures could someday truly be discovered utilizing human embryonic stem cell research, is there moral justification for the requisite destruction of these human embryos? Does the end justify the means? Do the moral arguments in the human embryonic stem cell debate have historical precedent?
