St. Joseph and Mary figurines in a Christmas tree

Las Posadas

By: Sister Antonia Teresa

During the special time of Advent, Catholics around the world may participate in the Hispanic tradition known as “Las Posadas”. This devotion re-enacts the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem for the birth of the Christ child. I look forward each year to our own “Carmelite Posadas” novena. This devotion helps me to prepare my own soul for the coming of Jesus into my heart. I am able to travel in spirit with Mary and Joseph to that small town that saw the birth of our Savior. I ride along with Mary on the donkey, trying to understand what was going through her heart. I am able to draw closer to her and to St. Joseph during this special time. My prayer is that you, too, may be able to enjoy this special novena and unite yourselves more deeply to the heart of our Savior and his most beloved Mother.
